It was built in 1975 to supply malt whisky for Chivas Regal Blends. Allt-a-Bhainne means "the milk burn" in Gaelic. The distillery sits on the lower slopes of Benrinnes and draws its water from the nearby springs. It was designed to run with minimal staff and its spirit is matured in warehouses elsewhere. It was expanded in 1989 and production was doubled. After a period of closure in 2002, it re-opened in 2005 and is now if full production.
