Fettercairn distillery was built in 1824 in Laurencekirk. It is one of only two eastern distilleries that survived the closures of the Eighties. The other being Glencadam. One after another the distilleries between Aberdeen and Dundee (North Port, Lochside, Glenesk and Glenury Royal) were closed. A one-time owner in the 19th century was Sir John Gladstone, the father of the Prime Minister William Gladstone. Official releases of Fettercairn are limited, with the standard bottling at the moment being a 12 year old.
