Glencadam distillery is located in the ancient city of Brechin in the Highlands of Scotland and is the only distillery in the Angus region. It was opened in 1825, just one year after distilling was legalised in Scotland. The stills have a special shape, an unusual feature being that their pipes run upwards at an angle of 15° rather than downwards, helping to produce a particularly mellow flavour. Glencadam was bought by Angus Dundee distillers in 2003 securing its future after Allied Domecq had deemed it surplus to requirements. The new owners brought some distilling pedigree with them after already purchasing Tomintoul distillery three years earlier. An official 15 year old was released in 2005 and has been the only official release since.
