When Glendronach was mothballed in 1996 its future looked uncertain and unclear. It was the success and demand for Ballantine's, which prompted Allied Domecq to resurrect it back in 2002.Since it re-opening the spotlight has turned more to its high quality single malt and a number of expressions have been released sometimes to confusing effect. The distillery still abides to traditional values, the same ones used by James Allardice when he founded Glendronach in 1826. It stills uses its own floor maltings, which provides about 20% of the malt required by the distillery. The core range of Glendronach today is a 12 year old Original double matured in ex-bourbon and sherry casks and a 33 year old in ex-Oloroso sherry butts. Benriach distilllery Company has since taken over Glendronach with the sale going through on late 2008. Benriach have since revamped and relaunched the Glendronach range with a new 15yo and 18yo released on April 2009.
