William Williams & Sons founded the distillery in 1897. Glendullan sits at the confluence of the Dullan and Fiddich rivers and is a few kilometres away from Glenfiddich and Balvenie. Glendullan has prominently featured among royal and political figures throughout its history with King Edward VII declaring it as his favourite whisky and Betty Boothroyd chose it as the speaker's whisky when she was elected the first female Speaker in the House of Commons. In 1972 a brand new distillery was built next to the old one, the style was typical of the industrial seventies distilleries. Both distilleries ran simultaneously for more than a decade, before the old Glendullan was mothballed in 1985. The official bottlings of Glendullan that have been released are the 12 year old in the Flora & Fauna series, five versions in the Rare Malts series, a centenary 1998 and also an 8 year old single malt.
