Glenglassaugh has had a stop-start lifespan with large periods of closure and short burst of production. It went through a substantial reconstruction from 1957 to 1959 and produced steady malt for the blending industry for 26 years until 1986 when it was mothballed. After 22 years of closure the future looked doubtful for Glenglassaugh, but fortunately the distillery was reopened on November 2008, by the Scaent Group.
