Glenturret is the most visited distillery in Scotland. Around 125,000 visitors come to the ‘Famous Grouse Experience' each year. The visitor centre was originally constructed in 1981 and was completely revised and refurbished in 2002 after new owners Edrington decided it was the best home for the ‘Famous Grouse'. Glenturret can also be considered the oldest working distillery in Scotland and hasn't had the smoothest of journeys to where it is now. It was closed in 1929 and did not look like it was going to open again. It was opened up again 30 years later and has gone from strength to strength since. A famous employee of Glenturret was Towser the cat who killed 28,899 mice throughout his life and actually secured a place in the Guinness Book Of Records.
