Tamnavulin distillery was founded in 1966 and was then mothballed only 30 years later. Tomnavulin, in Gaelic means, "Mill on the hill". The distillery sits on the banks of Allt a Choire - "The stream of the corrie" - a tributary of the great River Livet. It is one of only three distilleries actually in the famous Livet Glen, and is the only one actually on the banks of the river Livet, although it draws its water from surrounding hills. This single malt epitomises the essence of Speyside, it is delicate and sweet as heather, as light as sunlight on water, with just a memory of peat smoke. The mellow and light aroma, the mature, gentle oak flavour and the pronounced long lasting finish. Since the takeover of Whyte and Mackay by the UB Group in 2007, Tamnavulin has started production agian.
