The Tomintoul distillery was founded in 1964 by the Glasgow whisky broking firms W&S Strong and Hay & MacLeod. The distillery is named after Scotland's highest village. It is a very young and modern distillery. Whyte & Mackay bought the distillery in 1974 and doubled the production capacity by increasing the number of stills from 2 to 4. In 2000, the distillery was purchased by Angus Dundee plc. This malt is mainly produced for the blending industry but in general Tomintoul single malt is one of the lightest Speyside malts you will come across, a grassy, perfumy malt whisky.
